Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair is a luxurious blend of the finest Kid Mohair and Mulberry silk.
We like to hold this yarn along with another Knitting for Olive yarn to create a warm and fluffy fabric. Cathy held Soft Silk Mohair with Pure Silk for our sample, Low Tide Shawl. You can find this stunning piece in our store. Karen combined with Merino to create Low Tide Sweater and combined it with Heavy Merino to make Ghostwood Mittens. Though in each of these examples we matched the colours, you can create stunning heathered fabric by combining different colours together.
The Mohair comes from angora goats bred in South Africa. Knitting for Olive yarns are traceable back to the individual farms, which means they know exactly which farms, farmers, and goats our wool comes from.
This Mohair is independently certified to the Responsible Mohair Standard (RMS). In essence, the yarn is produced with high respect for animal wellbeing, and with social responsibility.
As with the fibre in Pure Silk, the fibre in Soft Silk Mohair is cruelty free. The silk fibres are collected from cocoons after the chrysalises are allowed to mature into moths and escape.
The spinning mill also follows ethical, technical and environmental standards, creating yarns free from harmful chemicals. The yarn is STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified.
