Here are a couple of quick notes about this weekend on Main St.—your local downtown.
Candle Light Parade on Friday the 20th:
Have you ever been to this parade? We gather at the bottom of Main St. in front of St. Andrew’s church at 6:30, candle’s are handed out and we all walk up the Main St Hill behind the Newmarket Band. At the top of the hill we sing Christmas carols and then gaze down toward the Christmas tree at the bottom of the hill—then the tree is lit to our claps and cheers and the Christmas season officially begins. Lovely. Join us.
Santa Clause Parade on Saturday the 21st
The parade starts at 11 am and marches right up Main St. shortly thereafter. Loads of fun for the kids. Bring a chair. Christmas fun is my FAVOURITE kind of fun! The street will be back to normal by 1pm, so don’t worry about not making it to your local yarn shop (LYS) this weekend. Oh, don’t you worry. : )
And on the yarn shop front check out some of these new goodie-goods that came in this week….

Local photographer, Greg King, has focused his lens on Unwind over the past few weeks and has come up with some beautiful original work using yarn as his muse. Lovely prints and photo cards are available. Great gifts for yarn whores who have it all! Oopsie. Did I say ‘whores’? I meant ‘ladies’. silly billy.
But do you have these, yarn ladies? Crazy Zauberballs, sock yarn. So much fun. Look at the great colours and the super-neat way they’ve been wound into a ball! I’m a sucker for good presentation. $21

AND Superfine Worsted Alpaca from Americo. Soft and luxurious, great for this one-skein ribbed hat. This is a must squeeze yarn. (And if you LOVED the Kayla shrug, and I know you did, you’ll adore the newest winterized version of this pattern made from Llama! I’ll bet you Cathy will be bringing the finished sample tomorrow—drop by for a looksie. Wowzers.)

And here’s a great free pattern we (when I say we I mean Fiona) knit up in Sublime—everyone’s favourite washable merino. It’s knit in one piece—easy peasy. It’s one of those pieces you’ll wear forever.

This is what it looks like on me…the lady in the picture on the actual pattern has a slliiightly better haircut. : (

More copies of the Interweave mags are in….’Holiday Gifts’ and ‘Accessories’. Really nice magazines this year.

New books for the lending library…come in and check it out. Teehee. Love that pun.

And for all you Soak fans, it has arrived at Unwind. 3 gorgeous scents for your knitted loveables. Another great gift for the yarn ‘ladies’ in your life.

And these beautiful circular needle clutches are on their way—maybe by tomorrow??? Fingers crossed. Next week fer sher. They are from OffHand Designs and they’re so pretty. And practical. Thanks for the inspiration Paul!

So, my lovely yarn ladies, thanks for your attention and I do hope to see your faces soon.

I hate to mention Christmas already but for us knitters we HAVE to plan ahead! Am I right?
GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFTS for under $50!!!
1) Here are a couple pics of my favourite model showing off some new thick and thin yarn in a stunning and enormous cowl…worn two great ways. $45 (3 balls of copito, $15 each, free pattern) Ok—if this took me 90 minutes to knit I’d be exaggerating. Fer real.

2) Or how about this little number….our millipede scarf is so much fun, so easy and so quick! ($44, one ball hand dyed mohair/silk, free pattern)

3) New and amazing sock yarn from an artisan in Vancouver, this is called Ocean Wind sock yarn. This is the softest sock yarn I’ve ever felt in such beautiful colours—they remind me of a water colour painting….($24 each)

4) How’s this for a barrel of fun! These kits are on sale for $35. There’s a lot of time to make many of these before Christmas for all your favourite little dudes. Every time I look at this picture I giggle. It’s awesome.

AND FOR A LITTLE MORE $$$……
1) ‘THAT’ vest, as shown on City Line. Can be worn in so many ways, I’ve lost count! And, yes, it’s just a rectangle with holes. ($72, 4 balls of copito medio, free pattern) This is Heather’s Sears pose. What IS she looking at?

2) Ok, this is the grand daddy of all knitting projects. This is….THE SYLVI! Sandra—lovely Sandra—knit one for me out of the Andean wool from Americo, making this the softest, lightest Sylvi around—sorry Margaret but it’s true. I WILL wear this as a sweater. ($140, only 7 balls of this unbelievably light Andean wool, pattern is $8 from Twist Collective)

So, once again, sorry to bring it up but IT is just around the corner….
And I have 2 classes I’d like to run before Christmas—let me know if you’d like to join. I’ll be scheduling dates in the next 2 weeks as word gets out….
1) Crochet for beginners. $50 (yarn and hook included)
2) Top Down Baby Sweater with Deb Gemmell. For those who missed her class, here’s your chance to take it. This time Deb will show you even more techniques on a Teddy Bear sweater—extra small. Doing a smaller sample means you’ll be freed up to take in even more of Deb’s expertise. Don’t miss it! ($59, yarn included as well as Deb’s new top down baby sweater book) We had a full house at the last one—with GREAT feedback! People are loving this easy, no-sew technique. Email me to get your name on the list.
Ok buddies….Happy Weekend to you all! See you soon,
