Where the Wild Things Are…
“Wild Things” on two levels..
I got to thinking about the title of this email and realized it applies to two things I want to share with you today:
1) The crazy wild yarns that have been coming to the shop in honour of ‘Scarf Season” AND
2) The crazy wild people we saw in Venice Beach when we went to the Vogue LIVE show in Los Angeles! Wow. Seriously.
Let’s focus on the yarn…
When the cool wind starts a’blowin I know it’s time to be wowed by the goodies that start pouring into the store. They always make me smile with wonder. Every year the trends are more creative and interesting than the last and this year is no exception–in fact, it may be the best year ever.
Here’s a wild one now…Elegance by Estelle. 2 balls does a super-fun, easy lace scarf. $10 per ball, free pattern.
Go on and TRY to tame it. Teehee.

And here’s another wild one–texture, colour, this one’s got it all! It’s called Easy.
No kidding! 8mm needles, 2 balls…go!

I’m doing a millipede scarf with mine–does anyone remember the millipede scarf???
It’s based on this great one (Fickle Fingers by Gayle Roehm) from 2005….I go crazy for this thing.

This is my personal fave of the wild yarns in this fall. It’s pretty and light and soft–not wild at all actually.
It’s just like those other frilly yarns you’ve been knitting…with a twist. Literally. The scarf is knit like a corkscrew.
Essentially you are knitting the stitches off the needles in the wrong order. Here’s a quick video to make sense of it…

And the one that has proven to be a customer favourite…..ALOHA by Katia!
Why is it that the laziest scarf is the most popular? Huh? No knitting required…

Check out the video link below to see how ridiculously easy it is to make this scarf….
So, I TOTALLY lucked out last week….
Sandra has been working on this GLORIOUS blanket for her daughter for the past few weeks that I’ve been drooling over. WELL…she informed me that she’s made too many blankets for this daughter–who shall remain nameless–and would I like it for the store? Hello! Yes please!
So I am now the proud owner of a Lizard Ridge Blanket made out of Noro Silk Garden….beautiful. Thanks Sylvie for coming in at the exact right time to hold the blanket for the camera. This is nearly HALF the size if the original..and plenty.
Only 12 balls of Silk Garden will do it. Sandra put a crochet border around the whole thing that she’ll show you anytime….right Sandra Dee??

Brand New from Interweave–Knitwear Magazine! The PREMIER issue is in stock at the store.
Take a look at a little preview.
I love the tagline, Simple handknits for the thoughtful knitter. Lovely.
GREETINGS FROM LA!!As some of you may know, my husband and I went on a yarn show/vacation last week to Los Angeles for the Vogue Live show. We had such a great vacation, met some amazing people and took part in the latest Vogue experience. And what an experience! Here are some highlights from the trip…
The day long set up….

Done!

The Hyatt in Hollywood where the show took place. Hey…is that Keanu by the pool!!

My husband with his mistress…the Lonely Planet Guidebook. I’m not threatened.

Relaxing in downtown LA. Yes, that’s the Sweet November shawl…
Laguna Beach….I wore the shawl ALL week. Bonnie–I’m totally with you! Best shawl ever.

PS: Melissa, the mom/knitter/wife of Garrett Styles who died during police duty this summer sent this message to you kind folks…
Unwinders,
On June 28th my world was turned upside. It has been an overwhelming time, both of grief and loss and of gratefulness because through all of this I know that I have not been alone.
Thank you very much for your support and generosity. Your kind words have provided comfort. It is your actions, and the actions of so many others, that have helped to set me back on my feet and move slowly forward into my new reality.
Thank you,
Melissa Styles
