Crocheters…I know your dirty little secret.
You’re EVERYWHERE!
You know, I always suspected there were a lot of you out there but I’ve been really surprised lately. It seems that over the past few weeks I’ve been bombarded by women who hesitantly approach me and say, ‘Yes, I crochet.”
In the past they’ve blushed and giggled like they were slightly embarrassed by their crochet hobby. Lately though…there’s been a surge of confidence amongst them. The crocheters whom I’ve spoken to have raised their heads high and voiced themselves strongly, “YES, I crochet. Get over it.”
I hear you my neglected friends. I hear you.
I have to say one thing about crocheters before I move on to my point. Yes, I have one. Today, at least.
Crocheters must be the most polite and easy going group of crafters I know.
Imagine–You go into a craft store and you see NOTHING that supports your passion. Just knitted garment after knitted garment…
But do crocheters complain? Do they shout and say bad things about the shop owners who clearly don’t value their skills? No. They shyly ask, “Do you have any crochet samples?” And when shop owners say no, they smile a brave smile to hide their pain and find their own way around the store trying to imagine how things might look crocheted. A sadder story has not been told.
I’m sorry to say that I don’t know a lot of knitters who would be so polite. Oh, get real. You know you’d loose your collective MINDS. But not the humble crocheter. Oh no.
WELL. I have been working with some AMAZING crocheters to bring you into the loop, so to speak. Together with a few top notch crafts-people, I am working to ensure that Unwind will soon be FILLED to the brim with crochet samples for you to enjoy, try on and gush over. Oh happy day.
Tell all your crochet friends. ; ) (in case you missed my point–that was it)
Here are some samples that have already arrived…
The Elise Shawl is a free rav download. We did it out of 3 balls of Koigu KPPPM. It’s amazing to me how differently the colours show up when the yarn is crocheted!

Here’s another beauty…called the Queenie’s Angel Crochet Scarf. Another free pattern, shown here in 2 balls of Debbie Bliss Angel. So pretty.

And more are ‘a-comin! (Cyndi? Are you out there? I’m ready to talk baby stuff!)
This fall get ready for a full line up of crochet classes, as well.
All together now, “I AM CROCHET. HEAR ME ROAR!” Ok miss-politey-pants. Just a little squeal will be fine. Jeesh.
And here’s some news. Are you ready for it?
I FINISHED THE AMIGA!
Now pick your jaws up off the floor and take a look….isn’t it cute! and if I can do it….well, I’ll just leave it at that.
Two balls Cotton Flame from Americo. Ridiculous.

And because I LOVE Americo’s cotton so much we made another sample out of 2 balls of the pima cotton sport. A little free pattern for a little girlie shawl…Summer Flies.
Here’s the background…
Did you guys ever see the movie Sweet November? With Charlize Theron and Keanu Reeves? What you may or may not know about me is that I’m a Keanu-maniac. I know I know. Some of you will think less of me. I have dealt with it for more than 20 years–bring it.
I love him and I don’t care who knows it!
Anyhoo, he’s in this (slightly lame) movie called Sweet November with Charlize Theron who is wearing the most incredible scarves the whole movie.
Enter Christina, my customer. She comes in the shop this week and says she wants to knit the Sweet November Shawl. Me: “They have a pattern for that shawl????” I practically tackled her.
So I’m gonna make one and hope Keanu falls for me cause I’m wearing the same shawl as her….you get the pathetic point.
Check it out though! It’s really cute….

And for all you haters out there….really? Don’t you just wanna….

On that dreamy note…
Signing off,
Wendy
