Ok, before I forget….we’re having a Fall Festival on Main St. on Saturday Sept. 19th from 10-5pm.

Are you crafty?  Do you know someone who is?  We need some really neat vendors for this festival.  We’ll have someone spinning outside Unwind as well as someone with a wheel doing a pottery demo and sales, we’ll have other crafty types and we need more.  Let me know if you have any ideas!

Thanks!  (Fine print: the vendor will be brought to the organizing committee and they will decide if they are appropriate for the festival and in the best interest of the main street merchants)

Ok.  It’s that time of the year that is so exciting for me.  Every week, new treasures start to arrive.  I’ve found some really cool stuff for you—great gift ideas and fun for the whole family!  Check out this wonderful little artisan I found on Etsy.com (GREAT craft website, by the by!)

From Slipped Stitch Studios…

Slipped Stitch Studios' knit kits

These are little knit kits that come outfitted with; 1) instruction cards you to let the person receiving your knitted gift know about important info, like, how to wash it, what it’s made of, and…the most important thing…that it was knit by YOU! 2) mini pattern magnets 3) cute stitch markers 4) magnetic tin top to keep your darning needle (included also) 5) itsy bitsy tape measure.  All in a funky little tin.  $27

Slipped Stitch Studios' Pattern Magnets

These are the greatest idea!  Thanks Aunt Jean for showing me the way.  Pattern magnets that guide your eyes while you’re reading patterns line by line.  Um….dare I say it….DUH!  Where have you been all my life!?  Pure and prettied-up brilliance! ($14)

Needle holders

These needle holders are too cute.  Look at the little skulls!  Yes, I said cute skulls! Precision sewing, lovingly made by hand.  Way to go Laura! ($35)

Lined project bagsAgain, too cute.  Lined project bags with canvas bottoms.  A durable and pretty little way to keep your yarn where it belongs.

(Just to give you and idea about how much fun the fabric is on these gems, look at the image below.  The book this poor knitter is reading is titled, “Quick and Easy Knitting Projects”.  I love a knitter with a sense of humour! Teehee!  It’s funny because it’s true.)

Fabric swatch

And by the time you get this email I will be fully restocked in Americo’s Pima cotton for the Kayla Shrug—I’m heading downtown this aft.  Yay!

Oh!  And Cathy made this GLORIOUS scarf-y shawl out of 2 balls of beaded silk by Tilli Tomas.  We wanted something that would look delicate and elegant on a little black dress this holiday season…and I think she’s done it.  Free pattern!

And on that note….

See you soon!!

Vogue Knitting fall coverThe new issue of Vogue Knitting has arrived….here’s the cover.  Seems like the trend this year is natural colours, natural yarns, deep and richly-coloured knits.  I’m in earthy heaven.

Just as I’m writing this my woolly bully has arrived….new colours, old colours.  Good times.

Main Street Event

This weekend there will be a Main Street Sidewalk sale.  Most businesses will have sales inside their stores as well as merchandise on the street.

At Unwind you will find LOTS of stuff in my 50% off bin—it will be busting.  And you will find a few surprises—can you say cashmere?  Mmmm?

Also, I will be selling many of my knitted samples that must be worn and enjoyed instead of hung on mannequins and fondled.

SO COME ON DOWN AND WANDER THIS WEEKEND!  I heard the weather will be beautiful…can’t think of any place I’d rather be.  : )

Wow!  What a few weeks it’s been!  Ya’ll are really keeping me running!  I hardly have had a moment to compose this email.

But, as usual, I must communicate….talkie talks-a-lot.

MORE colours in the Pima Cotton from Americo have been carted up from the big smoke.  This Kayla shrug has been eagerly embraced.  And why not—it’s fabulous.

If you DON’T want a beautiful shrug-like cardi, and if you DON’T want it made out of soft, beautiful cotton, and if you DON’T like looking good, then DON’T come into the store!

Because if you do, you will leave with the yarn for this thing. It’s irresistible. Trust me.

I sent you a poor quality photo last time.  I have a NEW Blackberry with a WAY better camera now.  So here I am again.  Bulging belly and all!

Wendy in Americo Shrug

I also brought in some of Americo’s superfine alpaca from their natural line.  No dyes.  Just the soft subtle colours of the alpacas.

Here’s our own (Jenny’s own) Natalie modeling the Timothy Shawl from Americo….couldn’t ask for a prettier bunch of pictures!  Thanks Natalie!  So patient….

And these rustic earthy pins come from Americo too….

So, I have been busy taking down all of your information for this Sylvi Jacket knit along!

It’s going to be so much fun!  Already, I have about 25 of you who have confirmed to take part—what a party!  Plenty of room for more…just say ‘what the hey!’ and dive in with us.

Here is all the additional info I put on the website under ‘classes’.  I’ll be ordering the yarn by the end of August, so don’t delay if you want to try this coat.

$5.50 a ball. 14 balls max.  Unbelievable price, great experience.

Sylvie Coat Knit Along

September 16th we will be launching a knit along with this jacket as our muse…oooh lala.

We’re going to tackle it together—so don’t cry.  It’s chunky and on BIG needles….WE CAN DO IT!

PLUS, we will be knitting it out of the Briggs and Little wool the pattern calls for, which makes the cost of this project a total of about 75 bucks. WHAAAAT?  Smile!

This is what you have to do:

1) Email the store to say you are interested in the Knit Along. You will be added to our email group so we can all be friends and keep in touch.

2) Come to the store to pick your yarn colour and tell us what size you want to make (we have a copy of the pattern for you to use as a reference).

*** If you are far away please visit the Briggs and Little web site for your colour options. We will be using 'Atlantic' yarn. Email the store for sizing.***

3) Pre-pay for the required amount of yarn and pattern by Friday August 28th. You can use PayPal or call with a cc number. Or visit the store and use the usual payment methods. (yarn is $5.50 a ball and the pattern is $7)

3) Join us on Sept 16th from 7-9pm to pick up your yarn and cast on!

4) Meet every 2nd Wednesday until the Jacket is DONE! (every Wednesday is an option for those who need a little more support because it's also the night of our stitch and bitch)

Join our RAVELRY group and post pictures of your progress and chat with others knitting along with you! Search under the GROUPS tab for 'Unwind Sylvi Knit Along'.

At the end of this knit along I'm hoping for a group photo with us all in our beautiful coats!

There is strength in numbers--let's do it!

Interweave magazine is in!AND…..

FALL 2009 Interweave is here!!!  Here’s my fave pattern…the shawl buttons at the base of the back but leaves the back open!  So cool.  Perfect out of the NEW Spud and Chloe sweater yarn!

A BIG shipment of Tilli Tomas beaded lace came in this week….whew.  It’s almost too pretty. Looks like ice cream. Trying to not lick it.
